From age 16 and up Violence
Martin Scorsese, 2016 161 minutes Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, Ciarán Hinds Mexico, Taiwan, USA English, Japanese 19 July 2017 Dutch

Martin Scorsese's SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor - at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden.

This long-time passion project for Martin Scorsese (it has been in development since 1990) marks the second adaptation of Shusako Endo's 1966 novel, which was previously adapted by Masahiro Shinoda. In SILENCE, Scorsese explores the conflict between adhering to one's sacred vows and traditional beliefs versus morality and doing the right thing.

SILENCE had its world premiere for an audience of roughly 300 Jesuit priests at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, followed by a special screening the next day in Vatican City.
