Breaking Ground is a platform for European film students and their films, that is based in The Netherlands. They program the best of their films around the year at different events and introduce upcoming talented filmmakers. On Wednesday the 20th of November a showcase of six new, award-winning films will be presented in Lumière Cinema.

The films:

MAGNESIUM (The Netherlands, Sam de Jong)
Isabel, a 16-year-old talented gymnast, is about to enter a very important qualification competition. In the run-up to her last chance to reach the top, something happens which will change her life forever. Now she must do everything to yet achieve her ultimate goal.

CHEST OF DRAWERS (Finland, Sanni Lahtinen)
What is there to do for a chest when a little mischievous guest messes up her drawers?

ENDLESS DAY (Germany, Anna Frances Ewert)
The film is about an insomniac's inner journey through a sleepless night. For most people sleep comes naturally but for some the night turns into an ongoing struggle to drift off into oblivion. This film explores what it's like to be awake against one's own will and the feelings of despair and loneliness that accompany the passing of time.
Endless Day has been shown at Sundance Festival & and won the Breaking Shorts-competition at the Dutch Go Short Festival.

SWARMING (Finland, Joni Männistö)
A child discovers life inside a dead bird and starts to play with it.

GOOD NIGHT (U.K., Muriel d'Ansembourg)
Good Night is an intimate portrait of two 14-year-old girls on a night where their childhood innocence is threatened by an awakening sexuality. The film follows the girls as they head into London on a secret night out, dressed way beyond their years and oozing a sexuality they barely own. Giving mixed signals to the men they meet, the boundaries between innocent play and dangerous seduction start to blur.
