On Thursday December 21 – the shortest day of the year – Lumière once more participates in the European Day of the Short Film. Go Short, EYE, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Netherlands Film Festival have put together a programme (78 min.) with some of the best Dutch shorts of the past year.

Nils Vleugels, Netherlands 2017, 14 min.
Short comic drama about a father-to-be who is overcome with anxiety and doubt as his girlfriend is going into labour. Nominated for a Gouden Kalf in the category Best Short Film at the Netherlands Film Festival.

Lejla
Stijn Bouma, Bosnia & Herzegovina 2017, 22 min.
Lejla is a young woman from Sarajevo who feels stuck in her life. One day she meets Vedad and they fall in love. Vedad offers her the possibility of leaving together with him, but she is unsure about what's best for her future.

Bullet Time
Frodo Kuijpers, Netherlands 2016, 5 min., animation
Two cowboys face each other in a good-old-fashioned duel. But when they fire their deadly bullets, those bullets immediately fall in love with each other, forgetting what they're supposed to do.

Grijs Is Ook Een Kleur
Marit Weerheijm, Netherlands 2016, 27 min.
Is life worth living if all your days are grey? In this coming-of-age film, the young Cato is confronted with her elder brother who comes back to live at home after a suicide attempt. Winner Student Oscar in the category 'best foreign short film'.

De Begrafenis Van De Verlegen Mens
Joost van Hezik, Netherlands 2017, 10 min.
One day, all shy people drop dead. At the same time, all of a sudden. This short film shows how a small town organizes a ceremony for its deceased residents.
