THE BIG SICK is based on the real-life courtship between Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and graduate student Emily Gordon who fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash.

As his Pakistani parents relentlessly set him up with potential brides for an arranged marriage, Kumail navigates treacherous waters in the worlds of both dating and stand-up comedy. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family's expectations, and his true feelings.

Produced by Judd Apatow (GIRLS, KNOCKED UP, BRIDESMAIDS), THE BIG SICK features a sterling collection of comedy talent in front of and behind the camera. A revered comedian, Nanjiani shines in the lead role. Mining his personal stories for comedy gold, he shares his experiences that are uniquely Pakistani but will resonate for everyone who has ever fallen in love.

IGN  - "Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon have told their own story in a funny, highly engaging way that doesn't feel precious or sanitized, but instead is relatable and engrossing from start to finish. And you'll laugh a hell of a lot."

Chicago Sun-Times - "It's funny and smart and wise and silly, it is romantic and sweet and just cynical enough, and it is without a doubt one of the best romantic comedies I have seen in a long time."
