My Week with Marilyn

London, late 1950's. Freshly graduated, budding young filmmaker Colin Clark lands a spot on the set of 'The Prince and the Showgirl', a Hollywood film-production starring Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe. When Monroe's husband, the playwright Arthur Miller, has to leave the country, Clark seizes the opportunity to accompany the elusive starlet on a sightseeing tour round the capital. Inevitably, over the course of one week, the two gradually grow closer and closer together.. 'My Week with Marilyn' is based on an allegedly true account of what happened that week as published by Clark more than 40 years later. Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, Brokeback Mountain) turns in a much lauded performance in the title role, successfully fleshing out the character of Marilyn Monroe as an emotionally frail woman ill-equipped with handling the consequences of her stardom.

"It took a toll on Marilyn Monroe to look effortlessly buoyant on camera. Michelle Williams lets us see why. It's a great, soulful performance. Sit back and behold." (Rolling Stone)

"It's an expertly made, intentionally minor movie, though when Monroe, doping herself with everything available, lies in bed, confused and hapless, there are depressing intimations of the end to come." (New Yorker)
